Tracking Your Business’ Leads, Sales And Referral Sources For Optimal Profits

You will generally need to track your business’ leads, sales and referral sources, if you wish to profit optimally and maximally, in your business.

In order for you to be able to do this, you will need to understand the following

A Lead

A lead is anyone that is interested in your product or service.

Your business leads will include the traffic/visitors to your business website, or your business offline, your newsletter subscribers, your opt-in list subscribers, visitors that made enquiries through the online contact form on your website, people that make phone call enquiries about your product/service etc.

A Customer (Or Client)

A customer (or client) is anyone that buys (or purchases) your product or service.

A Sale

You make a sale when a lead buys (or purchases) from you, thereby becoming your customer (or client).

Referral Sources

Referral sources include

  • Individuals, companies, organizations etc that refer others (that is, leads) to your business and
  • The ad media/methods from or through which you can get others to your business, through your business promotions

Your Potential Targets

Your potential targets include your visitors/traffic, your opt-in list subscribers, your newsletter subscribers and other leads.

A Sales Tracking Software

A sales tracking software is a software that you can use to track your business sales and their referral sources.

You will need to use a sale tracking software in your business, to track your online and offline sales, and the sales that you may get or generate through, or from mobile platforms, if you wish to profit and make as much as you want in your business, and if you would want to achieve your business sales/profit goal, within the specific period of time, that you may have set or defined for it, in your business.

A CRM Software

A CRM (Customer Relationship Management) software is a specific type of software, that you can use to automate your sales force’s (that is, your sales people/team’s) personal selling activities, track and promote your marketing campaigns, grow your business sales, track your communications and interactions with your targets (that is, your business’ leads and customers) etc.

You should ideally be able to either import all the sales figures/numbers (that is, the sales deals/opportunities that you may have won in your business), and their referral sources, that you may have tracked with your CRM software, into your business’ sales tracking software, or should be able to link/connect your CRM software to your sales tracking software, in order for you to be able to access the sales figures/numbers and their referral sources, that you may have been tracking with your CRM software, in your sales tracking software too, so that you will be able to get an overall overview, of all your business sales from the internet, offline and from or through mobile platforms, at each point in time, on a daily, weekly or monthly basis etc, in your business, within your sales tracking software.

You will most likely need to work with a web developer or a software developer, in order for you to be able to do this for your business.

An Ad Tracking Software

An ad tracking software is a type of software that you can use to track your ads (that is, your advertisements) and promotions.

A Tracking Id

A tracking id is a tag or an item that you can use to uniquely identify and track your business leads, customers, sales, referral sources, content, ads, offers, promotions etc. Some examples of tracking ids include

  • http://www.yourwebsite.com/page.htm?ad=2
  • http://www.yourwebsite.com/page.htm?promo=ppc1

Note that the tags – source, ad and promo are tracking ids, while Facebook, 2 and ppc1, are the values that have been assigned to those tags, in order to be able to determine where (that is, the referral sources at which) others may have clicked on the above url link (that is, our example url link).

b). Telephone Numbers

You may also choose to use one or more telephone numbers as your tracking ids too, that is, you can use
