You will generally need to determine, what you will need to do to potentially profit and make some specific $X amount in sales/income, through your business, before you set up your website, since you will need to use some of the details/information that you will get from doing this to

  • Create or find the right product/service (based on the researches that you would have done, to determine what you will need to do to potentially profit and make, the specific $X amount in sales/income, that you may have set for your business to make, within some specific period of time) that others will buy, that you will be selling on your website
  • Determine how you would want to sell to your targets, that is, whether you will be selling online, offline and/or on mobile platforms, and whether you will be selling globally, or per country, or per some specific location etc, you will need to set up your website based on these in order for you to be able to profit and sell. You can hire a web designer as an employee for your business or you may choose to use a third party for your website design. You may also choose to do your business website design by yourself too, if you know how.

Some of the options that you can use to design your business website by yourself include, website templates, website builders (such as Wix.com), website content management systems (such as WordPress, Joomla and Drupal) etc.

(e). A Blog

It is generally easier to create some content on your site with a blog, with the help of a content management system (CMS) like WordPress. A blog is like a single page of journal entries. You can use a CMS like WordPress, to design your whole website too, apart from using it to provide your site with a blog.

An online shopping cart will generally allow your potential customers to select and buy multiple services or product items/units, on your website at the same time. Online shopping carts are typically provided or packaged/bundled with ecommerce online stores.

(i). An Online Payment Gateway Service

An online payment gateway service will typically allow you to accept payments like credit cards, e-currencies etc online. You will need to link and connect your online store, shopping cart and payment gateway (through your payment gateway service) together, in order for you to be able to take sales orders, through the internet, in your business.
